Friendship Place is a nonprofit whose goal is to end or prevent homelessness in the Washington, DC metro region. The organization's mission is to empower people experiencing or at risk of homelessness to attain stable housing and rebuild their lives.
The Friendship Place Welcome Center is looking for volunteers to assist in their drop-in center! The Welcome Center is located at 4713 Wisconsin Ave. NW, just a few minutes walk from St Ann. Please contact Danica Hawkins for questions: [email protected]
Greeter: The greeter will be responsible for helping to create a warm and welcoming environment. A greeter will be at the door or our front desk and is often the initial point of contact participants have with the drop-in. They will also assist in handing out supplies to those in need. They are seeking coverage Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays 9:00am to 12:00pm, and 1:00 to 4:00pm.
Mailroom: Participants can use the Welcome Center address as their primary mailing address. With hundreds of people coming through the Welcome Center each year, this means they get a lot of mail! When volunteering in the mailroom, you’ll be responsible for alphabetizing the mail and handing it out as participants request it. They are seeking coverage Mondays and Tuesdays 9:00am to 12:00pm, and 1:00 to 4:00pm.
We're thrilled to welcome volunteers back to our beautifully renovated dining room at the newly named Father John Adams Resource Center! This space offers more than just meals – it's a full resource hub with shower facilities, clothing, and mail services for those in need.
All volunteers must sign up via the portal. Ready to help serve meals in this special space? View opportunities and sign up here!
P.S. – Groups or corporations interested in sponsoring meals (with or without volunteering) are welcome to reach out. And don’t miss our Annual Trot for Hunger 5K volunteer sign-ups – click here to join us!

"St. Ann's currently has 21 mothers and 24 children residing in our programs. Using creative means, our staff continues to offer clinical and social work services. Social workers check in with families via FaceTime. Some of our moms and older children are engaged in distance learning, and our education specialist is on-site to support them. Several of our moms remain employed in “essential personnel” positions, which are often stressful. Their children are cared for by moms who have lost their jobs. Two nights a week, our Board members provide a catered meal for the families. Other friends have food and household items delivered to St. Ann’s. These gestures of goodness and others abound and give us hope. Please contact Susan Flaherty to help at [email protected]
Join us on this journey of supporting our aging community and the people caring for them.

Please be mindful to dress appropriately as a volunteer for Mass.Faithful parishioners, please continue to remember your parish at this time through weekly remote giving via Faith Direct.
