As you are aware, the number of people killed in the devastating Central Texas floods surpassed 100 on Monday. Officials continue to search the area for those that are missing. Of the 100 lives lost, approximately 30 of them were children. It will be a tremendous effort ahead to comfort those families who suffer through the grief of such a great loss of life and the work of rebuilding communities will last for years.
The Archdiocese of San Antonio, which includes the area of Camp Mystic, which was swept away in the flooding, is soliciting funds through Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Antonio to offer support and services to those in need through emergency supplies such as bottled water, blankets, clothing, and hygiene kits.
The faithful of our Church of Washington have always been generous to those in need and particularly when there have been natural disasters such as this. The Pastoral Center, at the request of Cardinal McElroy, has already sent funds to the Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic Charities to assist in this long-term recovery.
